Sprawling across 50 hectares on the eastern edge of the Adelaide CBD, the Adelaide Botanic Garden is one of the finest urban green spaces in Australia. Founded in 1855, it blends world-class plant collections, striking glasshouse architecture, and native wildlife into a free, year-round escape that draws locals and visitors alike.
The garden is home to an extraordinary range of botanical highlights. The Amazon Waterlily Pavilion shelters the giant Victoria amazonica water lily, while the Bicentennial Conservatory, one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, recreates a humid tropical rainforest environment. The award-winning Rose Garden, Mediterranean Garden, and Garden of Health each offer distinct seasonal colour and fragrance.
Beyond plants, the grounds are alive with birds, lizards, and turtles. The Museum of Economic Botany, housed in a historic stone building, explores the relationship between plants and human civilisation across centuries. Free Wi-Fi is available near Noel Lothian Hall, and the garden is wheelchair accessible from most entrances.
