The Fine Print
Privacy
Policy.
What we collect, what we do not, and why. In plain English, no dark patterns, no data resale.
Last updated: 24 April 2026
We do not sell data, we do not run ads, and we collect the minimum we need to keep the site running.
What we collect automatically
When you load a page, our servers record the URL, a timestamp, and basic browser details like device type and operating system. We also log the referring URL if your browser sends one. This is how we tell which guides are popular and which ones need work. Our own analytics run on our own servers, IP addresses are anonymised before storage, and bot traffic is filtered out before anything is reported.
Google Analytics
We also use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people discover and move through the site. Google sets its own cookies and receives your IP address, the page you are viewing, and standard browser details. We do not enable Google Signals, advertising personalisation, or any data sharing with other Google products. If you would rather opt out you can install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, or enable "Do Not Track" in your browser - we honour that signal for our own analytics.
Affiliate click tracking
When you click through to a booking partner (for example Thrill Experiences via Commission Factory), we log the outbound click so we can tell which experiences are genuinely useful to visitors. We do not share any personally identifying information with the partner beyond what your browser sends on a normal link click.
Contact form
If you message us through the contact form, we store your name, email, subject and message so we can reply. We keep submissions for up to 12 months and then delete them. Sending us a message does not sign you up for the newsletter.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to the newsletter we store your email address so we can send you the periodic dispatch. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes your record.
Third-party services
A small number of services load on the site. Each one sees your IP address as part of a normal web request. None of them get anything else from us.
- OpenStreetMap supplies the map tiles on destination pages.
- Google Fonts delivers the typefaces used across the site.
- Google Analytics 4 measures aggregate site usage. See the section above for details and opt-out.
- Wikimedia Commons hosts some destination photography, credited on the page where it appears.
- Commission Factory handles outbound affiliate links when you click through to book an experience.
Children
This is an adult travel guide. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Your rights
Australian privacy law gives you the right to ask what we hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, or ask us to delete it. Use the contact form with "Privacy request" as the subject and we will respond within a reasonable timeframe.
Updates to this policy
We may update this policy as the site grows. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change, and significant updates will be flagged on the homepage for at least a week.
