Australian Reptile Park
Where wildlife meets wonder
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Perched on the Pacific Highway at Somersby, the Australian Reptile Park has been drawing visitors since 1958 and today houses more than 2,000 animals across reptiles, marsupials and exotic species. A multi-award winner, the park is also home to the Weigel Venom Centre, which produces life-saving antivenom for snakebite treatment across Australia.
The park offers hands-on encounters throughout the day, from holding pythons and baby alligators to meeting koalas and free-roaming kangaroos. Zookeeper talks run on rotation, covering crocodiles, Galapagos tortoises and the park's resident tuatara, one of only a handful living outside New Zealand. Children in particular love the interactive format, which favours closeness over caged distance.
Beyond the entertainment, the park carries genuine conservation weight. Its antivenom program has been operating for decades, milking venom from some of Australia's most dangerous snakes to supply hospitals nationwide. A behind-the-scenes venom centre tour brings that story to life for visitors who want more than a standard zoo experience.
