Ballandean Estate Wines
Queensland's oldest family winery
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Ballandean Estate Wines is Queensland's oldest and most awarded family-owned winery, with vines planted on the Granite Belt since 1931 and a cellar door that has welcomed visitors for generations. Perched at altitude in the cool-climate wine country south of Stanthorpe, the estate produces an exceptional range of varietals that thrive in the region's warm days and cold nights. A tasting here is as much about the Granite Belt story as it is about the wine.
The Puglisi family has farmed this land for nearly a century, and that deep connection to place is palpable the moment you step into the cellar door at 354 Sundown Road. Six-wine tasting flights are $10 per person (refundable on bottle purchase) and typically last around an hour, with the freedom to choose from across the full range. Expect bold Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon alongside the alternative Italian and Spanish varieties that have become a Granite Belt signature.
The Barrelroom Wine Lounge, warmed by an open fireplace in cooler months, serves grazing platters and cheese boards from 11 am to 4 pm daily, making it an ideal spot for a long, leisurely lunch. Dogs are welcome in the courtyard, and the estate is fully wheelchair accessible with dedicated parking and accessible toilet facilities. Walk-ins are welcome any day of the week, though bookings are recommended on weekends and for groups of four or more.
Ballandean Estate is approximately 20 minutes south of Stanthorpe and sits at the heart of the Granite Belt Wine Country trail. After your tasting, a short drive along Sundown Road reveals other boutique producers and the rugged granite ridgelines that give this wine region its distinctive character and world-class terroir.
