Beacon Hill Lookout
Panoramic views over Guichen Bay
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Beacon Hill Lookout offers the best elevated view of Robe and its surrounding coastal landscape, accessible via a short timber boardwalk from a roadside carpark. The circular stone tower at the summit was rebuilt in 1996 to replace the original wooden structure that served as a navigational aid for fishermen entering Guichen Bay. Today it provides a free and accessible vantage point for visitors wanting to see the full sweep of the town, Long Beach, and the Southern Ocean.
The lookout tower is constructed from locally sourced paddock-picked limestone, giving it an organic connection to the landscape. A reinforced concrete staircase rises inside the circular stone walls to an open viewing platform at the top. From this elevation, the full arc of Guichen Bay is visible, from Cape Dombey and the obelisk headland in the south to the long white strip of Long Beach to the east. The view encompasses the town's historic roofline, the breakwater, and on clear days the hills of the broader Limestone Coast hinterland.
The boardwalk approach is approximately 28 metres in length with a modest elevation gain of three metres, making the site accessible for most visitors including those with limited mobility. Carparking for both cars and coaches is available at the base of the hill. The lookout is free, open at all hours, and well signposted from the Robe town centre on Beacon Hill Road. Sunrise and golden-hour visits are particularly rewarding for photographers.
