Billabong Zoo is a family-owned, award-winning wildlife park set on 10 acres just outside Port Macquarie, housing more than 200 animals from over 80 species. Visitors can hand-feed kangaroos, hold a koala for a photo, and watch keeper presentations on reptiles, birds of prey and other native and exotic animals throughout the day.

The zoo has operated since 1989 and places a strong emphasis on personal encounters. Guests move freely around the open-air grounds, getting close to wombats, dingoes, Tasmanian devils, meerkats, lemurs and a wide range of Australian reptiles. Pre-bookable one-on-one animal encounters add an extra layer of access beyond the standard admission experience.

Free keeper talks are scheduled throughout the day, covering the biology and conservation status of featured animals. QR codes at enclosures link to short videos, meaning visitors can learn at their own pace between presentations. The grounds are spacious enough to feel relaxed, with shaded picnic areas and a cafe for refreshments.

Billabong Zoo is a particularly good choice for families with young children, as the grounds are pram-friendly and the animals are approachable in a safe, well-managed setting. Parking is free for all vehicles including coaches.
