Get close to Tasmanian wildlife

Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, located 30 minutes north of Hobart near Brighton, is Tasmania's most celebrated wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre. Visitors can hand-feed free-roaming Forester kangaroos, come face to face with Tasmanian devils, wombats, echidnas, and quolls, and join daily guided tours that explain the sanctuary's wildlife rescue mission with warmth and expertise.
Bonorong operates as a social enterprise, and all revenue directly funds the rescue and care of injured and orphaned native animals from across Tasmania. The sanctuary is home to animals that cannot be returned to the wild, giving them permanent refuge while providing visitors with rare close-up encounters. The free-roaming kangaroo population is a highlight, a bag of feed is included with every admission ticket, and the kangaroos are notably relaxed around visitors.
Daily guided tours run throughout the day and are included in the admission price, covering the stories of individual animals and the broader challenges facing Tasmanian wildlife including road strike, habitat loss, and the Tasmanian devil facial tumour disease. The sanctuary also offers an after-dark tour for a fee, giving an entirely different experience as nocturnal animals become active.
The cafe serves plant-based meals and a picnic area with barbecue facilities is available. Parking is free and on-site. The sanctuary is accessible with disabled facilities and welcomes coaches and school groups. Advance bookings are recommended for the evening tour experiences.
