Brown Lake, known as Bummiera to the Quandamooka people, is a striking perched rainwater lake on North Stradbroke Island whose tea-brown water is tinted by tannins leached from surrounding melaleuca and tea-tree bushland. Lying within the Minjerribah protected area about 4 kilometres east of Dunwich, it is one of the most accessible and rewarding natural spots on the island. Picnic facilities and barbecues sit beneath shady trees at the water's edge, making it a classic Queensland day-trip destination.

The lake's amber-coloured water is naturally acidic and nutrient-poor, supporting a unique ecosystem of aquatic invertebrates, freshwater fish, and crustaceans found nowhere else. Swimming is popular and safe, as the gentle, sheltered shoreline is particularly good for children, and a short bushwalk circuit around the lake's perimeter passes through wallum heath and coastal scrub alive with birds. Wood-fired barbecues are available for day visitors and composting toilets are located in the car park.

Bummiera holds deep cultural significance for the Quandamooka people as a place of gathering, story, and ceremony across countless generations. The surrounding wetlands burst into colour with wildflowers in spring, and the lake is visited by cultural tour operators as part of their walking experiences. Access is via an unsealed road off Alfred Martin Way, which a standard two-wheel-drive car handles comfortably in dry conditions.
