Bruny Island Cheese Co
Handcrafted cheese and craft beer
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Bruny Island Cheese Co at Great Bay is one of Tasmania's most visited artisan food producers, combining a working cheesemaker and a craft brewery under one roof. About 15 minutes' drive from the ferry terminal, the cellar door serves cheese platters, tasting paddles, and a daily menu that showcases the island's cool-climate produce in a relaxed, barn-style setting.
The cheesemakers produce a range of washed-rind, aged and fresh styles using quality Tasmanian milk, while Bruny Island Beer Co brews a rotating selection of ales and lagers on site. Visitors can sample both freely, or book into a curated tasting experience that pairs four cheeses with fresh sourdough and a beer flight.
The venue is open every day of the year and welcomes walk-ins, though groups of eight or more are asked to give 48 hours notice. A lunch menu and retail shop make it a natural stop for a long midday break before heading further south.
