Bunyeroo Valley Lookout
Sweeping views of Heysen Range
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
The Bunyeroo Valley Lookout sits above an unsealed scenic drive inside Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, offering one of the most accessible panoramic views in the Flinders Ranges. From the small carpark a short walk leads to a ridge-top vantage point where the folds of the Heysen Range roll away to the south, with Saint Mary Peak, Mount Ohlssen Bagge and the rim of Wilpena Pound all visible on a clear day.
The lookout is reached via Bunyeroo Road, which branches off the Blinman Road about nine kilometres north of the Wilpena Pound Resort turn-off. The unsealed drive through the valley itself is spectacular, passing through narrow gorge sections and open creek flats dotted with river red gums before climbing to the lookout point.
Photographers particularly value the site at golden hour and in the blue hour just after sunset, when the layered ridgelines shift through shades of ochre, purple and charcoal. Wildlife including euros, emus and wedge-tailed eagles is commonly seen along the drive.
The road is generally manageable in a careful 2WD vehicle when dry, though high-clearance vehicles are more comfortable on the rougher sections. A national parks vehicle pass is required for entry to the park.
