Charlotte Pass Snow Resort
Australia's highest alpine retreat
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Charlotte Pass is Australia's highest ski resort and oldest snow resort, perched at 1,765 metres in the heart of Kosciuszko National Park. Accessible only by oversnow transport in winter, it offers an intimate, car-free ski village experience that feels refreshingly removed from the busier resorts, making it especially popular with families and those seeking a quieter alpine escape.
In winter the resort operates five lifts across 19 runs, with terrain suited to beginners through to advanced skiers. Guthrie's Chutes deliver the adrenaline hit that experienced skiers crave, while a beginner area and play park make it ideal for young families learning to ski. The car-free environment means children can move freely around the village, and the snow quality at this altitude is reliably excellent.
In summer, autumn and spring, Charlotte Pass transforms into a base for alpine exploration. It sits at the start of an alternative route up to Mount Kosciuszko summit, and the surrounding national park offers wildflower walks, snow gum forests and views of glacial lakes. The Charlotte Pass lookout is an easy stop for panoramic views of the Main Range.
Winter access is via the Skitube from Bullocks Flat terminal on the Alpine Way, followed by oversnow transport from Perisher Valley. In summer, visitors can drive directly on Kosciuszko Road. Park entry fees apply.
