Cleveland Estate
Underground cellar in vineyard country
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Set across 100 acres of gardens, vineyard and open pasture in Lancefield, Cleveland Estate is one of the Macedon Ranges' most storied wine properties. The original homestead was built in 1887 and the estate's underground cellar door is the only one of its kind in the region. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the flagship varieties, well suited to the cool-climate conditions of this high-altitude wine zone.
The underground cellar creates a naturally ambient setting for tastings led by knowledgeable hosts who guide visitors through the estate's own wines as well as a curated selection from across Victoria. Walk-in tastings are available during cellar door hours, and the experience pairs well with a long lunch at the on-site restaurant, which serves wood-fired pizza and a la carte menus in a heritage farm building.
The broader estate rewards a leisurely afternoon. A private lake, cottage gardens and resident farm animals including alpacas, sheep and geese give the property a pastoral character that sets it apart from more compact winery experiences. The surrounding vine blocks produce fruit that reflects the elevation and cool nights of the Macedon Ranges.
Cleveland Estate also offers luxury accommodation in suites and the original homestead, which suits group retreats. The property was refurbished and relaunched in 2024.
