Clifford's Honey Farm
Pure Ligurian honey, family made
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Clifford's Honey Farm at Haines has been producing certified pure Ligurian honey for three generations on Kangaroo Island, drawing on the island's status as the last significant pure Ligurian bee sanctuary in the world. Visitors can tour the extracting shed, watch a glass beehive in action, sample honey varieties, and stock up at the farm gate shop.
Kangaroo Island is home to the world's only remaining population of genetically pure Ligurian bees, descendants of Italian bees introduced in the 1880s and protected by legislation ever since. Clifford's has worked these bees for decades, producing a honey prized for its delicate, clean flavour that reflects the island's wildflower-rich landscape. The farm sits on Elsegood Road at Haines, roughly midway between Kingscote and Vivonne Bay.
Daily guided tours at 1pm take visitors through the extracting shed, explaining the lifecycle of a Ligurian hive, the extraction process, and the seasonal rhythms that shape each season's harvest. Entry to the bee information display room is free, and honey tastings are complimentary. Jenny Clifford's famous honey ice cream is a perennial favourite at the farm shop.
The property also has a large shaded picnic area and an enclosed children's play space with a sandpit and cubby house, making it an easy stop for families travelling the South Coast Road. No booking is required for general visits; tour bookings can be made by calling the farm directly.
