Coffin Bay Oyster Farm Tours
Wade in, shuck, slurp
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Coffin Bay oysters are regarded as among the finest in Australia, and this tour puts visitors right inside a working farm to understand why. Guests pull on waders and walk out through the shallows to a semi-submerged deck positioned above an active commercial oyster lease, where a working farmer shucks and serves oysters fresh from the water.
The guided experience runs for around 90 minutes and covers how oysters are seeded, grown and graded in the pristine, cold-water bay. Participants get hands-on time learning to shuck, then taste the result straight away. Optional add-ons include sparkling wine, Riesling or extra oysters.
Coffin Bay's calm, clear water and the intimate group size, tours regularly sell out, make for a genuinely relaxed, unhurried visit. The setting, with low scrubby dunes framing the estuary, is as good as the food.
Tours depart daily (weather permitting, excluding Christmas Day) and are run by a local operator based on the Esplanade. Bookings are strongly advised.
