Just 21 kilometres south-east of Armidale, Dangars Falls drops 120 metres over a sheer basalt escarpment into the head of Dangars Gorge, one of the most striking sections of Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. A short walk from the Dangarsleigh Road turn-off delivers visitors to lookouts perched directly above the plunge pool and across the gorge's forested walls.

Dangars Falls flows on Salisbury Waters, a tributary of the Macleay River system. The gorge itself is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage listing associated with Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, sheltering diverse wildlife in its cool, moist gullies far below the lookout platforms.

Two lookout points offer different vantage positions. The Dangars Falls lookdown places you almost directly above the waterfall's crest, while the Dangars Gorge lookout reveals the full sweep of the gorge stretching into the distance. A campground at the gorge rim is popular with birders and stargazers thanks to the dark, rural skies of the New England Tablelands.

The drive through Dangarsleigh village to reach the gorge is itself scenic, passing sheep and cattle properties that have grazed these high plains since the 1830s.
