Hahndorf Brezelhaus
Freshly baked, expertly caffeinated
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Hahndorf Brezelhaus opened in 2025 inside one of the Main Street's most beloved heritage cottages, a storybook 1800s building with timber floors, exposed wooden beams, and a courtyard that looks straight out of a Bavarian village. The bakery and cafe specialises in hand-twisted pretzels made the traditional German way, German-style cheesecakes, and a Euro-influenced breakfast and lunch menu, all paired with specialty coffee. It opens at 6:30am, making it the perfect first stop for early visitors.
The Brezelhaus occupies a heritage-listed cottage at 51 Main Street that had stood largely unchanged since the nineteenth century, and the fit-out has been carefully designed to celebrate rather than overwrite that history. Stone walls, recycled timber, and wrought-iron details create a warm, unhurried setting that suits lingering over a morning coffee and a still-warm pretzel. Courtyard tables overlook the leafy Main Street and are especially popular on sunny Adelaide Hills mornings.
The food program goes beyond bread, with a breakfast menu that includes German-inflected dishes such as soft pretzel with havarti and pickled vegetables, and a lunch offering that extends to open sandwiches on house-baked rye. German cheesecake, sold by the slice or whole, has quickly become a signature item that draws repeat visitors. Pre-ordering is available via the website for those wanting to guarantee their favourites. The cafe closes at 3pm daily, aligning with the rhythm of a traditional German Konditorei.
