The Murray to Mountains Rail Trail is one of Australia's premier cycling routes, covering 137 kilometres of fully sealed, off-road trail through the Ovens Valley and into the High Country. Connecting Wangaratta, Myrtleford, Bright, Beechworth, and Yackandandah, the trail follows a gentle gradient along former railway corridors, passing farms, vineyards, cellar doors, and craft breweries. It is free, accessible year-round, and suitable for riders and walkers of all abilities.

The Bright section of the trail is a natural centrepiece of the network. Riders can start from the Railway Avenue trailhead in Bright and pedal westward through the Ovens Valley toward Myrtleford and Wangaratta on a sealed surface with almost no elevation gain. The trail passes open farmland, riverside corridors, and country towns where farm gates, cafes, and producers offer easy stops along the way.

Bike hire is available from several operators in Bright, including electric bike specialists, making the trail accessible to those who prefer a little assistance on longer rides. Emergency markers are placed every kilometre along the trail for safety. The route connects to a wider network of shared paths across the region.

Autumn is a particularly popular time to ride through the Ovens Valley, when the deciduous trees along the route mirror the famous colours of Bright itself. Train and coach services connect to Wangaratta, making one-way rides a practical option for visitors without a shuttle arrangement.
