Set 2.5 km south of Tharwa Bridge on Naas Road, the Namadgi Visitor Centre is the essential first stop for anyone heading into the ACT's vast alpine park. Staff can advise on track conditions, road and snow closures, camping, and wildlife sightings across the park's 106,095 hectares. The centre houses interpretive displays on Ngunnawal Country, the region's geology, and the flora and fauna found across sub-alpine and mountain environments.

The visitor centre opened in 1990 and remains the hub of the park's ranger operations. Inside, exhibits cover the Ngunnawal people's deep connection to these lands, connection stretching back tens of thousands of years, as well as the European pastoral era from the 1830s and the NASA space tracking programs of the 1960s. A popular highlight for families is a walk-through wombat burrow exhibit complete with a lifelike display animal.

Outdoor amenities include electric and wood-fire barbecues, picnic tables, toilets, and a small carpark suitable for most vehicles. Staff sell firewood and park maps, and can book campsites at Orroral, Honeysuckle, Woods Reserve, and Mt Clear campgrounds. The centre does not accept cash, card payments only. Mobile reception across most of the park is unreliable, so stocking up on information here before heading in is strongly recommended.

The surrounding grounds include the Gudgenby-in-a-Box interpretive shelter featuring a reconstructed 1845 slab hut, and the Mouat Tree Shelter that commemorates the original ACT territorial border survey. The short Woodland Walk (1 km loop, Grade 2) departs from the carpark and is accessible year-round, offering an easy introduction to the box-gum woodland habitat that surrounds the centre.
