Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit
Race heritage on the coast
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Set against the wild backdrop of Bass Strait at Ventnor, the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit is one of the world's most scenic racetracks and has hosted the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix since 1989. Beyond the race calendar, the circuit welcomes visitors year-round with a History of Motorsport Display, go-karting, and guided tours of the famous pit lane and podium.
The History of Motorsport Display is the centrepiece of the visitor experience, tracing the story of Phillip Island racing from the very first Australian car grand prix in 1928 through to the present day. The collection includes championship-winning motorcycles, historic racing cars, and an extensive archive of photographs and memorabilia.
For those who want to get closer to the action, the on-site go-kart track is a replica of the grand prix circuit, offering sessions for both adults and children. Guided walking tours of the circuit take approximately 45 minutes and include access to the pit lane, race control, the media centre, and the winners podium, areas normally off-limits to the public.
The cafe sits adjacent to the main straight with unobstructed views across the circuit and out to Bass Strait, making it a favourite stop even for visitors who are not motorsport enthusiasts. Race weekends attract massive crowds, so booking accommodation and tickets well in advance is strongly advised.
