Established as a public reserve in 1869, Queens Park is a 25-hectare heritage-listed jewel in the heart of Toowoomba. Formal garden beds, a camphor laurel avenue, heritage bunya pines, and manicured lawns blend seamlessly with sports ovals and picnic grounds, making this the green soul of Queensland's self-proclaimed Garden City.
Listed on the Queensland Heritage Register since 2001, Queens Park was shaped by early colonial botanists including Walter Hill, the curator of Brisbane Botanic Gardens. The botanic gardens section showcases both exotic plantings and native species, maintained to a standard that draws horticultural enthusiasts from across Queensland.
The park hosts the famous Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers each September, when the gardens burst into a riot of spring colour and thousands of visitors descend on the city. Year-round, the park provides playgrounds, an off-leash dog area, public toilet blocks, barbecue facilities, and ample parking off Lindsay Street.
A memorial and an ornamental cannon are among the heritage features scattered through the grounds. Entry is free at all times, and the park is open around the clock, making it a favourite for early morning walkers and families seeking a relaxed afternoon in the shade.
