Witches Falls Circuit
Queensland's first national park
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
The Witches Falls Circuit in Tamborine National Park holds the distinction of being within Queensland's first gazetted national park, declared in 1908. The 3.1-kilometre loop walk from the Main Western Road picnic area passes through dense subtropical rainforest and ends at a lookout over Witches Falls, offering sweeping views across the Green Mountains and the coastal plain beyond.
The circuit passes through an extraordinary variety of vegetation, including piccabeen and bangalow palms, ancient strangler figs, and an understorey thick with ferns and native ginger. The rainforest here feels genuinely remote despite being just over an hour from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Birdlife is prolific, with whipbirds, king parrots, and wompoo fruit-doves all regularly encountered along the trail.
The walk is graded moderate and takes around one hour to complete at a relaxed pace. The picnic area at the trailhead has electric barbecues, accessible tables, and toilets. Entry to the national park is free, and the car park on Main Western Road is well signposted.
