Wynns Coonawarra Estate has been producing wine from the narrow strip of terra rossa soil in Coonawarra since 1891, making it one of the oldest and most celebrated wineries in South Australia. The iconic three-gabled bluestone cellar door, built in 1896, remains the centrepiece of the property and invites visitors to taste the estate's benchmark Cabernet Sauvignons and Shirazes in a setting that feels genuinely historic.

Coonawarra's defining feature is its terra rossa, a thin layer of red-tinted soil over free-draining white limestone, and Wynns is the single largest holder of vineyard land on this strip. The cellar door offers guided tastings of current releases alongside back-vintage bottles, and a Make Your Own Blend experience lets guests try their hand at assembling a personal wine from different parcels.

The winery is situated in the hamlet of Coonawarra, roughly 70 kilometres north of Mount Gambier, and sits at the southern end of a cluster of cellar doors. Wynns produces wines across a range of tiers from approachable Shirazes through to the flagship John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon and Michael Shiraz.

Visitors can pair tastings with cheese platters and browse a retail selection of current and library releases. The property also has a walking trail through the vineyards. No booking is required for standard tastings.
