Yarrangobilly Caves and Thermal Pool
Ancient caves, warm spring waters
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Yarrangobilly, set within Kosciuszko National Park roughly midway between Tumut and Kiandra, is one of New South Wales' most rewarding natural double acts. Spectacular limestone caves draped in stalactites and flowstone formations sit minutes from a natural thermal pool fed by a spring that maintains a constant 27 degrees Celsius throughout the year, making it an extraordinary place to swim even when snow lies on the ground outside.
The caves complex includes several show caves with different characters and difficulty levels. Jersey Cave and Jillabenan Cave run daily guided tours, while South Glory Cave is available for self-guided exploration. The more adventurous North Glory Cave offers a longer guided experience, and Castle Cave provides a full adventure caving option.
The thermal pool is a short but steep walk from the main car park and is free to enter once park entry has been paid. The pool is permanently heated by a natural spring and overflows into a children's wading pool, making it suitable for all ages. Changing rooms, toilets and picnic facilities are available on site. Swimming in a 27-degree pool while steam rises from the surface and snow blankets the surrounding hillside is an experience unique in Australia.
The Yarrangobilly Caves Visitor Centre is open daily (closed Christmas Day). A vehicle entry fee applies for those without a Kosciuszko National Park pass.
